OVERVIEW
One-Week Movie Camp is the most intensive, instructional one-week program in filmmaking that can be found at any digital film school. In one short week, digital film school students will be instructed in the basics of writing, directing, camera and digital editing, and each student will write, direct, shoot and edit a short film project.
Taught by instructors with Master in Fine Arts degrees and tremendous hands-on experience, the pace of this digital filmmaking course is feverish, and each student must be prepared to live and breathe filmmaking for the length of their stay.
CURRICULUM
At our digital film school, the program begins with two days of intensive study in camera, writing and directing. On Day Three students begin shooting their individual exercises. Day Five is comprised of editing class & post-production.*
In Movie Camp, each student will write, produce, direct, and digitally edit his or her own film on digital video, and will rotate among crew positions when his or her classmates shoot.
* Note: While this program is comprised of five days of classes, production, & post-production, occasionally, it is necessary to screen final projects on the morning of a sixth day.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES
Students enrolled in Movie Camp will use digital cameras, portable Lowel lighting packages, and Final Cut Pro digital editing systems. Classrooms are equipped with a television, VCR, DVD player and video cameras for demonstration and screening of clips.
WORKSHOP GOAL
Movie Camp was designed to serve the needs of different types of individuals. For filmmakers contemplating a longer-term education in filmmaking or a career in the industry, it is an excellent introduction. This digital filmmaking course gives an understanding of the requirements and rigors of filmmaking, as well as the exhilaration of seeing a completed project.
For others, One-Week Movie Camp is an escape vacation - an opportunity to have fun doing something completely different. Some students are simply interested in learning about the way a movie is made.
In every category, we have had alumni return to the Academy for one of our longer, more involved programs. Many of our one-week students get "bitten by the film bug" during the program, and realize that one week will not fulfill their desire to learn all they can about the process of movie making.
Every student enrolling in this program should be aware that this is an introductory course. The limitations of a one-week course should be apparent, given that many people spend years studying filmmaking and perfecting their craft. Nonetheless, many students in the One-Week Movie Camp have made excellent projects and decided to pursue movie making in the future.
